Our structural team originated in the Architectural department of Kirkham Michael Consulting Engineers in Omaha, Nebraska. Marty Wiedenman came to Kirkham Michael in 1989 as a structural designer working on building structure projects. In 1994, Kirkham Michael closed their architectural division and the KM building structural division was born. With one engineer and a CAD technician, we began working with architectural clients in Iowa and Nebraska.
By 2005, the structural group had grown to nine personnel in Omaha and one in the Denver office. In September 2005, Marty visited Colorado on vacation. He "went to the mountain" and had a vision for a structural engineering company that would exceed the expectations of the building design community and provide recognition and benefits to the members of our team. Rob Whorley and Marty Wiedenman discussed their intentions to the leadership of KM in January 2006. After several months of negotiations Performance Engineering opened for business in June 2006 as a completely separate company.
Our entire structural team from KM came aboard, including Tom Schott who now manages our Denver office. Throughout the negotiation process with KM and the subsequent buy-out that was agreed upon, care was taken to provide for all existing contracts and ongoing projects to not drop the ball or miss any deadlines. A subconsultant agreement was developed that enabled us to continue work on all existing contracts in order to honor all commitments to our clients. The transition was essentially seamless. Performance Engineering wants to thank all our clients and staff for making this successful transition and look forward to our exciting future. |
